This track is meant to be a smooth almost jazz style composition with an up-lifting harmony and melody. Listening to musicians such as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Kenny G help influence this track. This song is one that you could take a relaxing drive to or just listen to so you can set a mood of relaxation and meditation after a long day’s work or a day of frustration. It’s meant to sooth and mellow your spirit.

The drum rhythm was constructed in a 4/4 meter at 77 bpm. The structural idea I had was from one of my all-time favorite hits by Earth, Wind & Fire entitled “Can’t Hide Love “. When choosing my sounds, I wanted the drums to sound as close as possible to the original drum track. I added my own drum fill at measure four with a slow and smooth tom roll running into a snare fill. At measure eight I then kept the original drum fill from the Earth Wind & fire track. I kept the drum groove the same to keep that easy smooth feeling that makes you enjoy the song adding congas to also enhance the drums sound.

Using the kick drum as a starting point the bassline was intended to help enhance the groove of the melody and harmony by walking you into each note using the root note of each chord being played. I added flavor by placing notes in between the root notes to help guide the composition without it sounding empty but not over doing the bass line at the same time. I wanted to have the bass line help tell a story along with the melody and Harmony.

The melody of the song was center around the C major Chord progression. To me C major is a great jazz chord progression and scale. The chords that I felt complimented each other the best for this musical composition was C | G |Am | F | C | G |Am | F | C |Bº |Am |F | C | G |Am | F | Dm |F |Em |G |Am |Cmaj7 |Dm |F |G |Am |Cmaj7 |F |C |G |Am Fm.  How I would describe the way I created the melody is I was thinking almost on a level of a saxophone player. I love jazz so it instantly took me to a place where I felt it would be a musical composition that you could close your eyes to and imagine being in a relaxed and happy place with good feel.

The synthesizer and audio tracks were the most important and fun for me to do. I created to synth sounds from scratch one which is a synth e-piano and the other is a synth lead. These took a lot of thought and process to create and get the correct sound you are looking for. Knowing what a sine wave and saw wave is very important trying to complete this task. This could be the difference between the sound you’re looking for and a sound that is just not right for that project. The audio track was fun I took a technique that I learned from my school full sail university and applied it. I took a yeti cup and turned it into a cowbell. Using eq and compression it made a drinking yeti cup sound like a real life cow bell.

As for the time-based processors I used reverb on the bass and the snare drum to help make the sound warm and full. I added a compressor to all the drum tracks to help boost the signal and volume. I Used a limiter on the studio strings and a Noise Gate on the cowbell to eliminate any sounds other than the cup being played. For the mix I just wanted it to have an all-around even and pure sound. I utilized the pan option on certain instruments like the toms, the Melody keyboard and guitar, and the left and right crash cymbals. The harmony is centered to help fill up any empty spaces. Overall, the mix to me was meant to feel every single instrument being played and telling its own story in its own way.
